How to Cover a Talk for the ASC News magazine
“The pen is the
tongue of the mind.”
The purpose of this guide is to help you write about a talk effectively for the ASC News magazine. All of the below, except when indicated, are only suggestions. They are not obligatory for you to follow.
Introduction:
When covering a talk, there are certain points that you MUST mention in your article, such as:
The day and date of the talk.
The place of the talk.
The name of the speaker.
A short biography of the speaker.
The topic of the talk.
Body:
After you have done that, you could start elaborating on the talk itself. In order to help you do that, here are some suggestions:
- Mention the different issues that the speaker addressed in his or her talk.
- Write about the discussion that took place either during or after the talk.
- Write about the questions directed to the speaker and his or her answers to them.
- Include a quote of a question, answer, or a statement made by the speaker which you thought was interesting or an interesting quote made by an audience member.
Conclusion:
You could give a general comment on the talk, mention things that you or your fellow students have learned from it, or state your opinion. Remember, these are only suggestions, so you could always get clever and creative with your pen!
